Week Three Advanced Class ~ Landscape

This weeks photo challenge for the advanced class was landscape...still struggling with the specific  ideas that I want to photograph....this week Dave encouraged me to just follow and so I snapped away at the location he had for the challenge.  I  took this shot and found that I like the composition.    I am still working on the neon challenge for last week...I need alot more rain then Olympia has been getting.  If it doesn't rain by the 16th I am moving on to plan B.

A picture!  In a new Advanced class and we had to photograph a junk drawer...but I instantly thought of my father~in~laws childhood toy ~marbles.  And played with the marbles in the light!  Had fun with it.  I feel the inspiration again.

Near Lincoln City

Oregon Coast

Near Lincoln City OR. Was watching the sunset...but was distracted by the weeds that were on the restricted "other side of the fence" so I found my self breaking the law and watched the sun and the weeds....

A black and white challenge for my Friday Long Shot

A Friday Long Shot challenge from Barb....I haven't been great at my blog....but it is time I get better about

it. Here is a photo from a Mission in Solvang CA. Living in Washington, the light and shadows, well we don't see alot of that this time of the year. During my spring break trip, I found

myself looking for shadows. A different perspective in my photography.... light, one learns to really miss it. I enjoyed it. I would laugh at myself when I found my self cursing it because of

how hard it can be to photograph.

Friday Long Shot

Our Friday long shot a week or so back was the "office" and I arrived at work to the sun rising on a beautiful morning. This is the view from my desk. Most days it is a dreary day, but the sun was just amazing. This is the view of our kindergarten playground with Mount Rainier in the foreground. A few days before spring...What the future holds for some beautiful days... I hope. (This was taken with my cell phone)

Road Trip - Friday Long Shot

A picture from the droid on our trip to Vegas. It was easier not to carry the camera bag around...the blue sky and sun arrived so I snapped a photo for our Friday Long Shot challenge...The theme was "Road Trip". Where is the sun, our snow needs to go away.

King's Tide

Another week and I am posting. Really glad I have continued to participate in the Friday Long Shots with Barbara. This weeks assignment was water....and Dave and I went downtown to see the king tide. We found on the 4th Ave bridge that the water line has been higher ~ this was close to the water mark. Let's see what next week brings! Stay tuned.

Yea I am posting a picture....

A photo posted! Over the holidays I had pneumonia, but I was still taking pictures. I posted a couple of pictures to our class blog as I have been participating in our weekly photo challenge. This was last weeks challenge...a milk carton. When I think of milk, it reminds me of a good old chocolate chip cookie. So I wanted to capture movement in it. Photo information is f5.6~1/80~ISO 1250.

A daily photo is hard for me, but I am picking up my camera again so I will post the favorites...My goal is one or two a week. Lets see how I do on this challenge.

More pictures for my goal

My Challange

Getting Caught Up ~ Working through a photo a day

So the photo's that will be posted after this comment are just some pictures that I took.... The entire process of a photo a day is alot more difficult then I imagined. I could just snap photos but are they part of my goal of being purposeful photographs. I can honestly say I took my camera with me 95% of the time over the last month, but found this task difficult. I found it frustrating and I can say many days I just thought about throwing the towel in....but found myself searching for elements of a good photo. On days I didn't find the purposeful photograph I did find myself watching colors, shadows and where light is. I did learn more about purposeful and maybe that's why so few pictures. So maybe the task was partially accomplished. I hope you enjoy the next few pictures I have taken. My class is just about over, but I plan on continuing this process to keep myself motivated..whether is with a shutter release or just looking at elements of a purposeful photograph.

Day 16 ~ October 26th

Again today looking for fall colors on a blustery day....and well it's just me to include Snaza into the picture.... Can you guess who to vote for? That's easy! John Snaza. I was hoping that the background and foreground wouldn't blend as much as they did....but it turned out pretty good.

Monday Oct 25th

It was a cold blustery Pooh kinda day....Halloween is around the corner...so I wanted something that represented the change in weather. This was close, but a difficult day for photos..so I decided to work on photoshop skill..or lack of. I converted to B/W and decided to bring some of the vine colors in.

Day 14 - October 24

A gnome, you aren't seeing things. I had to incorporate this "silvery" character into my daily photo challenge. Our son's gave us a surprise 25th wedding anniversary party last night. And we received this gnome from our niece's....we have a standing joke...trade...gift exchange of lovely gnomes with our neighbors and yes they are family. Rachel put alot of work into this redecoration of the gnome we placed on their barn a few weeks back. I will proudly cherish this gnome....but just wait.....the neighbor''s 25th is a couple of years away!

Day 13 ~ Oct. 23rd

Our Friday Long Shot was the word "Umbrella". So with the help of Dave and several umbrellas I used an umbrella, the rain and a rain barrel to create this photo.

Day 11 and 12

No pictures...So 3 of 12 days are photoless...I will work on better odds for the completion of the project.

Day 10 ~ October 20th

Tonight was our photo class with Barb...and her challenge to us was to walk around down town Olympia taking as many pictures as necessary in the "Program Function". I have never used that function so I learned something new and am going to try and use the function more. I like the way the light reflects the building and the light catches the stain glass.

I just like this...no tripod

Not part of the picture of the day...but I did take this at the Portland Zoo...and when I saw this I wanted to freeze the water...but I didn't have the tripod (sorry Barb) but tried anyway and felt successful at it. It was fun to walk around the zoo....my sister is enjoying learning her new camera and we were able to share these settings with her on this. Fun to share with her...keeps the learning alive.

Day 9 - Tuesday the 19th

I picked up the camera today! Yea. I was behind in my posts....but I committed to getting everything downloaded. I saw this last week and was kinda excited about taking it...but I felt awkward taking it...I felt like I was invading someones space..their home. I should have slowed down a little and taken the picture lower. Something to keep in mind for next time.

Day 8 - Monday the 18th

Not such a good day...I didn't take the time to take a picture. I committed myself to this...so confessions is part of it.

Day 7 ~ Oct 17th

A day at the Portland Zoo with my sister and family. I had promised my nephew over the summer we would go..and finally. I love this zoo especially the giraffes. Today I found them out walking on a beautiful day and of course I saw the reflection and just had to have the picture.

Day 6 - Saturday the 16th

Day 6....We had a photo shoot with a family of family friends...We had a lot of fun with it. I had hoped to get out and get more photos but ended up in Centralia at some antique/junk stores and found some props...and too late to take pictures along the way. But some fun stuff being delivered this week. Yea!!

Day 5

Day 5 photo (Friday the 15th) and I did sign wave but I thought I would spare you. :) On my lunch hour I found some signs of fall...Sky a little blown out, but the colors were amazing. I found a picture for next week I am excited about as well. Tomorrow we have a photo shoot...lets see what the weekend brings! Take care everyone! Deana

Day 4 Photograph

Day 4....can you guess what I did that day? We could see lots of these over the next few weeks. Before I got there I thought about what I see....and it's easy...cars. So I wanted to capture a tire in motion and of course the person who will be our next sheriff....JOHN SNAZA! Hey did you catch the editorial on 10-15-10? If not see the Olympian!

Day 3 Photo

Day three of 56 pictures for this class challenge. Tonight during class we drew a word from a bag....mine was incognito. Superman behind the sunglasses! I think you can find anything down town Olympia.

Day Two Photo

My second day photo...not a favorite. But I did meet my goal~a picture. My time can be limited so some of these pictures will have to be on my short lunch hour, a little crunch time to find one. But I felt successful that I found one.

Monday, October 11, 2010

Another session with Barbara and the challenge is a photo a day. This may be difficult..but the challenge is on. I decided to find things that captured me...and nothing new a reflection was my focus today. There were ducks in the water, but a vehicle scared them away before I snapped the picture. I was committed to the shot and still went with it.

Friday Long Shot with Photography Group

One of the Friday Long Shot challenges! This was taken at Harbor Days. This was taken in shallow water~Fountain area. I seem to be drawn to water (AKA mud puddles).

A nice surprise

Dave and I went to pick up our photos as the fair last night...and I had an additional ribbon. When they displayed it on Tuesday a small edge of the tape caught the ribbon and it taped to the back of the board.....I didn't care. Just excited! It was fun for Dave and I to enter the fair....so we will do this again.

A Ribbon At The Fair For Me!!!!

As part of the photography classes that Dave and I have been taking over (almost) the last year we had to submit a picture to the Thurston County Fair. I entered this in the Misc. category and won second place. Yea! And yea to Dave he placed as well!!!! I love mud puddles!!!!

A new class assignment ~ X and Y

The photography class assignments have been what is called a "Friday Long Shot". Our instructor, Barbara Kates, emails out an photography idea and the class runs with it and post by Sunday at midnight....so after a trip to the Westport Winery we went to the Marina. Who knows really what X and Y was suppose to be...for me it was finding the letters at the marina...sorta!

Off the beaten path

The week of July 11th, the class assignment was to find a subject off the beaten path. I have enjoyed the weekly challenges that arrive via email and to post within 48 hours or so. Dave and I went for a motorcycle ride and found these mailboxes on Delphi Rd. I think I have found something new and fun to watch for to photograph.

I GET IT!! No more Auto Setting

I GET IT!! No more Auto Setting

From the last class we had to work on neon photographs! I knew what I wanted to do, and I was able to succeed at it. A crazy night downtown Olympia...cold as well.

Here is one of my favorites! A road trip to a mission in California!

Kyle and Whitney are engaged

Kyle and Whitney are engaged....here is a small sample of the pictures we took. We had a blast taking them and we are excited to have a daughter in Law! Can't wait for the July 2011 wedding. We love ya both!

Another shot downtown Olympia.

The Harbor in Olympia

Part of Master's I class was to find a "postcard" photograph that is an unusal shot for Olympia ...I think I found it in this one. I wasn't crazy about going out in the rain looking for a photograph...but I think the typical weather of Washington fit the bill on this!

Class Assignment

Here are just a couple of the photos that I took on assignment for our photo class at South Puget Sound Community College - Beyond the basics. It's learning "not" to use the auto mode. Thought I would hate it...but really enjoyed stepping out of the box!

The Happiest Place on Earth- Anything Disney!!
